Welcome to Fake Patch Report
My name is Jeremy Lee and I am a life-long sports card collector. Over the past 5 years I’ve picked up my fair share of patch cards and have a few bucks tied up in them. One day while surfing eBay I noticed a patch card which looked “off”. It was an Alexander Ovechkin RC from 2005-06 Upper Deck The Cup – a $5,000 card at the time. I checked my log of images and found one with the same serial number but with a different patch. I compared the autograph and it was identical...
“There was no doubt that this patch card was a fake”
The first thing I thought about was if any of the cards in my collection were fake and then I became skeptical of patch cards in general. I began to track certain cards and over the next year I spotted several other fake patch cards. With my concern growing I realized that this issue could become a destructive force in the hobby I enjoy so much. I began posting fake patch alerts on hobby message boards and was commended and thanked by other hobbyists for my diligence and for saving them money. Then the light bulb went off and I realized that there was a need to log fake patch cards and make it available to the hobby.
So here we are. I hope that you never end up owning a fake patch card. If you are a patch detective, please register and start submitting your reports. Please take the time to read "How Does it Work?" and "What's a Fake Patch?". Let’s protect our collections, our hobby and each other!
Regards, Jeremy Lee
